UPMC Community Citizenship

Community Citizenship

At UPMC, we maintain an unwavering commitment to our nonprofit mission of delivering outstanding patient care while fueling the development of a brighter economic future for western Pennsylvania.

By focusing on specific needs and reaching out in meaningful ways, we deliver Life Changing Medicine that improves the personal health and quality of life for individuals, the educational potential of children and the economic well-being of the communities we call home.

As western Pennsylvania’s largest employer — with more than 50,000 employees and total economic impact of $19.7 billion — UPMC supports one in five jobs in the Pittsburgh region. In Fiscal 2010, UPMC's contributions to the community amounted to more than $560 million, based on recent Internal Revenue Service guidelines. Combined with capital spending that tops another $450 million, UPMC's operations are a major driver of the revitalization of the regional economy.
