UPMC Cancer Centers

Working in tandem with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, which comprises the academic and research activities for cancer at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC Cancer Centers offers patients the latest advances in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Staffed by nationally and internationally recognized cancer care specialists, UPMC Cancer Centers encompasses a vast range of specialty programs for many types of cancer. The medical professionals at UPMC Cancer Centers represent 13 areas of expertise, each focusing on a specific type or treatment of cancer. Specialized treatment programs provide patients with innovative and advanced therapies based on a patient’s specific type of cancer.

UPMC Cancer Centers is one of the largest integrated community networks of cancer physicians and health care specialists in the United States. The American network covers more than 200 square miles of the greater Pittsburgh region, allowing highly trained medical physicists based at the Hillman Cancer Center, UPMC Cancer Center’s flagship treatment and research facility in Pittsburgh, to share information and expertise with radiation specialists at satellite centers.

The regional success of UPMC Cancer Centers’ hub-and-satellite model has led to international expansion of the network. Unique international partnerships have brought desperately needed radiation oncology services to Ireland. An advanced telemedicine network links the locations in Dublin and Waterford to the Pittsburgh hub, affording patients in Ireland access to the same level of expertise and technology available at the Hillman Cancer Center.
