UPMC Honored for Quality and Safety by Leapfrog Group

UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside has been honored for quality and safety achievements by the Leapfrog Group, a consortium of corporations and other organizations that work to improve the quality, safety, and affordability of health care.

UPMC Presbyterian has been named among 33 adult hospitals on the 2007 Leapfrog Top Hospitals list. Leapfrog’s honored hospitals received high scores on a rating system that measured 1,285 hospitals’ efforts to optimize patient safety standards, treat high-risk diseases according to scientific evidence, and use electronic prescribing programs. The criteria include computerized physician order entry, ICU physician staffing, evidence-based hospital referral, and safe practices.
