“I read in the Sole 24 Ore about an offer from Ireland to build in that country the biotechnology center that was forseen for Carini, in the province of Palermo. Confronted with the continuous distortion by the Prodi government, it is inevitable that the Americans choose to consider this offer” stated the President of the Region of Sicily, Salvatore Cuffaro, who added “It is the inevitable consequence of the incredible behavior of our national government. Sicily now risks losing a great development opportunity and the entire country is certainly not projecting a good image in front of the international scientific community”. “The politics of illogical and irrational cuts”, he added, “driven only by intentions to punish Sicily, continue to demonstrate their worse side and to build damage upon damage. Our calls to the Sicilian parliament did not help, even the voices of over 1,200 international researchers, and intellectuals from the left that joined the call to save Ri.MED, were not listened to, even the mobilization of the public was not enough”. “I ask myself”, he concluded, “what else can be done to make the voiceof the people heard by a blind government”.

FINANZIARIA: CUFFARO,SU RI.MED HA SBAGLIATO IL GOVERNO PRODI
(ANSA) - PALERMO, 13 DIC - "Leggo dal 'Sole 24 Ore' di
un'offerta giunta dall'Irlanda per realizzare in quelle terre il
centro per le biotecnologie che era previsto a Carini, in
provincia di Palermo. A fronte del continuo tergiversare del
governo Prodi è inevitabile che gli americani scelgano di
valutare questa offerta".
Lo dice il presidente della Regione siciliana, Salvatore
Cuffaro, che aggiunge: "E' l'inevitabile conseguenza
dell'incredibile atteggiamento assunto dal governo nazionale. La
Sicilia rischia, adesso, di perdere una grande occasione di
sviluppo e l'intero Paese non fa certo una bella figura di
fronte alla comunità scientifica internazionale".
"La politica dei tagli illogici e irrazionali - aggiunge -
guidati solo da intenzioni punitive nei confronti della Sicilia,
continua a mostrare il suo volto peggiore e ad arrecare danni su
danni. Non sono serviti i nostri appelli ai parlamentari
siciliani di tutti gli schieramenti, non viene ascoltata neanche
la voce di oltre 1.200 ricercatori internazionali, intellettuali
anche di sinistra che hanno firmato l'appello per salvare il
Ri.Med, non è bastata neanche la mobilitazione popolare".
"Mi chiedo - conclude - cos'altro si può fare per far
sentire la voce della gente a un governo cieco". (ANSA).
