UPMC Times Square Ad Highlights Services

Clinical Excellence To Be Featured On NBC SharpVision HDTV

PITTSBURGH, December 21, 2006 — For the first time, UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center), a Pittsburgh based health care enterprise, is taking its message to New York City’s Times Square with an advertisement on the 3,000-square-foot NBC SharpVision high definition TV.

The 30-second ad, which will shine a spotlight on UPMC’s clinical expertise, will run every 30 minutes from Dec. 25 through Dec. 31, from 9 a.m. until 1 a.m., each day and will be seen by the thousands of revelers who fill the square on New Year’s Eve.

“UPMC’s presence and influence as a national and international provider of health care continues to grow, and we are excited about this opportunity to tell our story in a new and compelling way,” said Sandra Danoff, interim chief communications officer at UPMC. “With the New Year approaching, people reflect on their health, and we feel this is a great opportunity to remind them that world-class care is available at UPMC.”

The advertisement features UPMC’s programs in cardiac research and care, cancer, prostate cancer and gynecology. It concludes with a link to UPMC’s Web site, www.upmc.com .

Widely recognized for its innovations in patient care, research, technology and health care management, UPMC has transformed the economic landscape in western Pennsylvania and is exporting its clinical and technological expertise around the globe, with health care ventures in Italy, Ireland and Qatar.

The largest integrated health care enterprise in Pennsylvania and one of the leading nonprofit medical centers in the country, UPMC is one of only 14 hospitals nationwide to earn “honor roll” status in U.S. News & World Report’s 2006 “America’s Best Hospitals” survey.

With 43,000 employees and nearly $6 billion in revenue, UPMC is comprised of 19 tertiary, specialty and community hospitals, 400 outpatient sites and doctors’ offices, retirement and long-term care facilities and an insurance plan nationally recognized for its excellence. Nearly 5,000 physicians are affiliated with UPMC, including more than 2,500 employed physicians.
