PITTSBURGH , May 7, 2008 — Student pharmacists at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy have created a new Web site for students and others interested in the business of pharmacy. Pharmacy Insights will provide access to the personal thoughts, experiences and advice of leaders in fields both directly and indirectly related to pharmacy.
The first edition of Pharmacy Insights offers student-produced audio interviews of 16 influential leaders discussing strategic decision-making skills, the outlook for the pharmacy profession, advice for students in the field and other topics. The first leaders interviewed include entrepreneurs in the independent pharmacy and home-health fields throughout the United States and top executives of some of the world’s most prominent pharmaceutical companies.
The interviews are accessible through the Pharmacy Insights Web site, www.pharmacyinsights.org, as well as through iTunes at http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=279645387.
“I felt privileged to speak with such influential individuals in the profession of pharmacy, an opportunity not available to many students,” said Chris Antipas, a student in his third professional year at Pitt’s School of Pharmacy. “Pharmacy Insights gives me and other students the chance to see what it takes to be a leader in the many sectors of pharmacy.”
Pharmacy Insights will continually involve students from the first through the fourth professional years to produce new editions annually. In addition, other students and pharmacy schools will be invited to produce and submit interviews.
Faculty from the School of Pharmacy have been invited to present research on this project at the 68th annual International Pharmaceutical Federation meeting in Basel, Switzerland, later this summer.
