Frank C Sciurba, M.D.


Frank Sciurba, M.D. is associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and medical director of the Pulmonary Physiology Laboratory in the division of pulmonary, allergy and critical care medicine.

He is a graduate of the University of Chicago School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary/critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

In 1988, he was appointed director of the Pulmonary Exercise Laboratory and Transtracheal Oxygen Program. In 1991, he was appointed medical director of the outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation program and in 1992 was made director of the combined Pulmonary Function/Exercise Physiology Laboratories at the Comprehensive Lung Center.

He was a principal co investigator for the National Institutes of Health sponsored National Emphysema Treatment Trial (NETT) and the FORTE trial.

Dr. Sciurba’s other research interests include cardiopulmonary exercise testing, transtracheal oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, and lung reduction surgery for emphysema.
