C Kent Kwoh, M.D.


C. Kent Kwoh, M.D., professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, is a leading clinical and academic researcher in rheumatology. His clinical interests include rheumatoid arthritis and general rheumatology, and his research interests include prevention of osteoarthritis, epidemiology in rheumatic diseases, ethnic disparities in rheumatic diseases and rehabilitation/orthopaedic outcomes.

Dr. Kwoh chaired a task force of the American College of Rheumatology which in February 2002 updated guidelines for the management of rheumatoid arthritis. Due to major advancements in the management and treatment of this disease, the ACR has updated its guidelines after only five years.

Dr. Kwoh is a member of the board of directors of the ACR and an associate editor of Arthritis Care and Research, one of ACR’s major journals.

He is also heading the University of Pittsburgh Arthritis Institute’s $8.9 million Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Muscoloskeletal and Skin Diseases.

Board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology, Dr. Kwoh received his medical degree from the University of Illinois and completed his residency at University of Illinois Hospitals, and fellowships in rheumatology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and clinical research in Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at Yale.
