Susan Manzi, M.D., M.P.H. is associate professor of medicine, epidemiology and dermatology at the
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and co-director of University of Pittsburgh's Lupus Center of Excellence.
Dr. Manzi is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in lupus patient care and research, and a pioneer in scientific investigation of cardiovascular disease in patients with lupus.
She is a member of the Lupus Research Institute Medical Advisory Committee, the Abbott Scholar Award in Rheumatic Disease Program, the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee of the National Arthritis Foundation, the Systemic Lupus International Cooperating Clinic Advisory Committee, the Advisory Committee for the Canadian Network for Improved Outcomes in SLE, the Committee for SLE Response Criteria, the Medical Advisory Committee of the Lupus Foundation of Pennsylvania and the Arthritis Advisory Board of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and serves on the editorial board for Arthritis and Rheumatism.
Dr. Manzi chairs the Data Safety and Monitoring Board for the National Institutes of Health Intramural Program for SLE Clinical Trials, the Lupus Study Group of the American College of Rheumatology, the American College of Rheumatology Committee for Clinical Research and the Clinical Therapeutics and Outcomes Study Section of the National Arthritis Foundation. In addition, she has published more than 100 reports of research in lupus and related diseases.
Dr. Manzi graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society. She received her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical school honor society. Dr. Manzi received her master’s of public health from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and completed her internship and residency at Duke University Medical Center where she was appointed assistant chief resident, after which she completed her fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
