Musculoskeletal Imaging
The musculoskeletal imaging division interprets plain films (x-rays), CT, MR, and MR arthrography and performs a variety of interventional procedures including biopsies and pain management procedures. The division has a close clinical and research relationship with the Department of Orthopaedics, which is a world-renowned department offering groundbreaking treatments, such as the “double-bundle” surgical technique for ACL tears, pioneered by a UPMC surgeon. Referrals to the musculoskeletal imaging division include a wide variety of subspecialized orthopaedic practices including sports medicine; hand, foot, and ankle; spine; joint replacement, and level I trauma. The division is nationally recognized for its research on injury mechanics.
Musculoskeletal imaging is based at UPMC Montefiore. Division faculty also are located at UPMC Shadyside and the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine — a world-class facility designed specifically for the injury treatment of athletes.
