UPMC Presbyterian

UPMC Presbyterian, located in the heart of Oakland, is the hub of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and is the region’s largest and most prestigious medical/surgical referral hospital. In conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, multiple ongoing research and graduate programs are a source of research in almost all fields of medicine. The hospital has leading programs in organ transplantation, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, critical care medicine and neurosurgery. In addition, UPMC Presbyterian also is designated as a Level I Regional Resource, and is the busiest such center in Pennsylvania. Founded in 1893, UPMC Presbyterian continues to provide state-of-the-art medical care to patients in the tri-state area and throughout the world and is the only hospital in western Pennsylvania to earn a position on the U.S. News & World Report “Honor Roll” as one of the top hospitals in the U.S. Radiology residents spend approximately 70 percent of their time at UPMC Presbyterian.

UPMC Shadyside

UPMC Shadyside is a 486-bed tertiary care hospital founded in 1866. UPMC Shadyside is ranked in the top 100 hospitals for cardiac bypass surgery and cardiac intervention by the HCIA and, in conjunction with the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, is a regional referral center for oncology. Radiology residents do rotations at UPMC Shadyside in emergency radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, neuroradiology, mammography, nuclear medicine, thoracic imaging, interventional radiology, and cross sectional abdominal imaging.

Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC

Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC is one of the nation’s leading hospitals devoted exclusively to the care of women and infants. Magee has been serving the population of Pittsburgh since 1911. Recognized nationally for the treatment of breast cancer, Magee-Womens Hospital is one of only six National Centers of Excellence in Women’s Health as designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Magee has 406 beds (263 adult, 80 bassinet, 63 NICU) and averages approximately 10,000 deliveries per year as the busiest birthing center in the tri-state region. Radiology residents spend a total of four months at Magee during their residency.

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is a 235-bed regional pediatric referral center. Children’s hospital is ranked as one of the top 10 children's hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report and is the only hospital in western Pennsylvania devoted solely to the care of infants, children, and young adults. Children’s is seventh nationwide in funding provided by the National Institutes of Health and is the only Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center in western Pennsylvania. The hospital is renowned for cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care medicine, diabetes treatment, hematology/oncology, neurosurgery, organ and tissue transplantation, orthopedics, otolaryngology (ENT) and pediatric surgery. Radiology residents spend a total of four months at Children’s during their residency.

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is a brand new 500,000-square foot state-of-the-art oncology center and the hub of UPMC Cancer Centers, one of the largest integrated community networks of cancer physicians and health care specialists in the country. Working in tandem with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, UPMC Cancer Centers is able to offer patients the latest advances in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment at locations throughout the tri-state region. The radiology department in UPMC Hillman Cancer Center consists of a 25,000-square foot imaging center with CT, US, MR, fluoroscopy, and PET/CT facilities.

VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, University Drive

The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, University Drive is a 357-bed medical/surgical tertiary care facility located ¼ mile from UPMC Presbyterian. The medical center is a national and regional referral center for liver and renal transplantation, cardiac surgery, oncology, radiation therapy, and geriatric care. An active research program in multiple subspecialties including, but not limited to, diagnostic radiology, alcoholism, balance disorders, cardiovascular disorders, computer science, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, nephrology, neurology, oncology, orthopedic surgery, urology and vascular surgery contributes significantly to the clinical and academic atmosphere of the medical center.
