Part-Time Schedule
Evening/Weekend Classes
"We know there are many people interested in the rewarding profession of nursing. But those potential students also have families or they can't afford to leave their jobs to become full-time students," says Linda Kmetz, RN, PhD, director, UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing. "That's why we are offering an evening and weekend scheduling option so they can complete all course work for a diploma in nursing on a part-time basis."
Non-nursing courses are taught two or three evenings per week, or two evenings and a Saturday. Evening classes will begin after 5 p.m. Clinical nursing classes involve two to three nights per week and a minimum of daylight Saturday and Sunday instruction every other weekend. Part-time students can complete the entire program in four years of study.
Eligible UPMC staff who enroll in evening and weekend classes can have all tuition costs paid through the health system's tuition reimbursement program and by agreeing to work for UPMC for two years upon graduation. Part-time students also are eligible to receive federal grants and student loans.
