Complementary Services

In addition to renowned clinical care, Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC offers many services to enhance your childbirth experience before, during, and after the birth of your baby.

Education Classes

A comprehensive course of education classes runs the gamut from preparing for pregnancy, to Lamaze-aided childbirth, to infant massage and returning to your pre-pregnant self. Dads, grandparents, support persons, and siblings are an active part of the process.

Postpartum Depression

The experts in the Womancare Behavioral Health Program can provide educational materials and resources to help with the trying times that can be triggered by the hormonal changes of childbirth and the adjustment to parenthood.

Breastfeeding Support

The certified experts in Magee's Lactation Center are available to answer your questions. Whether during the hospital stay or after discharge, they provide private one-on-one breastfeeding consultation, helping you choose the best breastfeeding options that are right for you.

Baby Boutique

Billie's Baby Boutique, located within the Garden View Gift Shop, offers an array of baby gifts and infant care items. It is just one of the resources provided by Magee's three thriving volunteer auxiliaries, offering new families a variety of ways — from photographs and videotapes to charms, bracelets, and storybooks — to commemorate baby's birth.

Room Service

While in the hospital, you can enjoy Room Service, a new and exclusive Magee service that provides you, and visiting family members, too, with the food you want when you want it from a comprehensive breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu. Candlelight dinners also are available for celebrating the special occasion.

Pregnancy Calendar

Magee publishes "A New Beginning," a 12-month pregnancy information and keepsake calendar, which is given to expectant mothers at their first prenatal visit. The calendar includes valuable pregnancy information, a guide to having a baby at Magee, as well as useful information for the postpartum period and adjustment to parenthood. Stickers help each woman customize her calendar to create a keepsake for baby.

Keepsake Memory Book

A custom-printed keepsake memory book titled "My Life as a Baby" is given free of charge to new moms upon discharge as a gift for their babies. Parents can use the book all year long to create a lasting treasure of baby's first year.
