The Woman, Infant, and Fetal Heart Program

Everyone knows that women and men are different. So why do most of us not know that heart disease in women is different than heart disease in men? There is a misconception that heart disease is primarily a man's disease. The fact is, heart disease is the number one killer of women. It is a woman's greatest health risk, and it can present differently in women than in men.

Knowing the facts about heart disease in women can prevent death and disability. Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC recognizes the difference in women and is committed to enhancing women's health care through excellence in clinical care and leadership in the community. In our continuing efforts to achieve this goal, Magee, in partnership with the UPMC Cardiovascular Institute, has developed a comprehensive program to serve women, infants, and the fetus with or at risk for developing cardiovascular disease.
