UPMC McKeesport

Digestive Disorders Center

UPMC McKeesport provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. These services are offered on both an inpatient and an outpatient basis. The Digestive Disorders Center uses sophisticated technology and a variety of surgical and therapeutic options to treat patients with compassion and understanding.

Diagnostic services provided by this division include upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, ERCP, esophageal motility, and the entire spectrum of standard endoscopic procedures, enterscopy, and Argon Beam Coagulation for coagulation of tumors and bleeding sites.

The center recently introduced capsule endoscopy, in which the patient swallows a tiny camera contained in a pill. Capsule endoscopy can be used to examine areas of the small intestine that cannot be viewed with endoscopy or colonoscopy and is helpful in diagnosing Crohn’s Disease, small bowel tumors, and obscure gastrointestinal bleeding.

A wide array of services is provided for the treatment of:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Swallowing disorders
  • Cancer
  • Gallbladder and pancreatic disease
  • Liver disease
  • Functional bowel disease
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
