UPMC Mercy has been a teaching hospital almost from its beginning. Today, UPMC Mercy is a major academic medical center. UPMC Mercy sponsors residency programs in anesthesiology, diagnostic radiology, family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, podiatry, transitional year, and participates in the jointly-sponsored program in emergency medicine.
