Family Medicine
This three- to six-week clerkship is offered year-round to third- and fourth-year medical students. The third- and fourth-year rotations can each accept one or two students for each rotation.
Each student is assigned to either South Side Family Health, located on the city’s South Side, or Health Associates of Western Pennsylvania, located on the North Shore of Pittsburgh. Students will be supervised by the attending staff at each center.
Experience in the provision of ambulatory care to a wide range of patients will be available. Specific experiences may include:
- well child assessment
- routine health maintenance
- industrial medicine
- acute injury management
- minor trauma
- management of chronic disease
- psychological aspects of disease
- minor and severe acute illness management
- gynecologic disorders and health maintenance
- urgent care
- other common conditions
Proper use of referral resources and consultants will be demonstrated. The clerkship will also provide experience with the care of patients within a managed care environment.
