UPMC Mercy

Research

It is highly desirable for each resident to produce a peer-reviewed article for publication prior to the completion of his or her program. Residents also are encouraged and expected to present at the hospital’s Research Day and actively participate in regional and national professional and scientific societies, particularly through presentations at the organizations’ meetings and publications in their journals. Each resident may choose a faculty research advisor who will offer guidance and technical support.

UPMC Mercy currently has grant-funded research in many different areas. The faculty provides active participation in clinical discussions, rounds, and conferences in a manner that promotes a spirit of inquiry and scholarship. Scholarship implies an in-depth understanding of basic mechanisms of normal and abnormal states and the application of current knowledge and practice.
