The Department of Emergency Medicine at UPMC Mercy
UPMC Mercy has a Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center, open 24 hours a day. The department provides immediate evaluation and treatment for patients with life-threatening, chronic, or acute medical, surgical, and psychiatric conditions.
In addition, the UPMC Mercy Emergency Department is certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center, providing the most advanced treatments and procedures to prevent disabilities in stroke patients 24 hours a day.
UPMC Mercy also offers an urgent care center, a pediatric emergency center, and a 24-hour behavioral health evaluation and referral center. A continuum of care for the patient is stressed at all levels of care.
Urgent Care Center at UPMC Mercy
For emergencies of a less acute nature, patients who come to the emergency department at UPMC Mercy are referred to this center, which is open from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m.. This allows us to reduce the waiting time for patients who otherwise would have to wait while more serious trauma cases are addressed.
Pediatric Emergency Center
UPMC Mercy is the only general service hospital in the area with a dedicated pediatric emergency center capable of treating children with illnesses and minor injuries. All of the staff have advanced training and are certified in Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).
The Behavioral Health Evaluation and Referral Center
UPMC Mercy's facility provides 24-hour evaluation and treatment for individuals with a psychiatric emergency.
