UPMC Mercy

Rehabilitation Services at UPMC Mercy

UPMC Mercy is home to the UPMC Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (IRR), one of the leading rehabilitation programs of its kind in the country, offering innovative therapies, state-of-the art technology, and high-quality medical care at more than 70 locations, and the only rehabilitation program in the region with an on-site Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center. UPMC Mercy cares that patients can receive the highest quality of care from the same team of experienced physicians and therapists from the point of injury through the rehabilitation process.

Rehabilitation professionals help patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings recover from stroke, speech impediments, swallowing disorders, spinal cord, and traumatic brain injuries. Comprehensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy are available to help patients reach their highest possible level of functioning.

Rehabilitation Services supports patients through their rehabilitation and recovery. The continuum of care provides for patients from the time they are admitted to the hospital immediately following the injury until they are released from a rehabilitation center and are receiving outpatient care.

Outpatient rehabilitation services are provided by the Centers for Rehab Services. Physician services are available from the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
