The Emergency Department at UPMC Presbyterian provides the best possible emergency care to people throughout the Pittsburgh region – no matter the time of day, or the complexity of illness or injury.
The newly renovated and expanded 44 bed Emergency Department at UPMC Presbyterian utilizes a patient and family-centered approach, aimed to help keep family members comfortable and in close communication with physicians and other Emergency Department staff members.
With access to world-class physicians, nurses, and technicians, our department offers the most advanced approaches to treat nearly any health issue, with conditions ranging from heart attack through infections, and minor illnesses and injuries. Our laboratory and imaging services allow us to diagnose and treat these conditions, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Stroke and Trauma Care
As part of the UPMC Stroke Institute, The UPMC Presbyterian Emergency Department is certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center, providing the most advanced treatments and procedures designed to help prevent disabilities in stroke patients.
The UPMC Stroke Institute’s multidisciplinary team uses advanced therapies to treat stroke and help patients recover physical and cognitive function. Our stroke experts see more than 1,000 patients each year and provide consultation for hundreds of others through the UPMC Stroke Telemedicine Program.
UPMC Presbyterian also has a Level I Trauma Center (highest level), designed to treat the most serious life threatening injuries.
