UPMC Horizon recognizes nurses for “Excellence in Practice”
FARRELL AND GREENVILLE, April 21, 2011– As part of National Nurses Week, UPMC Horizon will honor 12 exceptional nurses during its 13th annual “Excellence in Practice” awards ceremony Monday, May 9, at the Radisson Hotel, Shenango Township.
This year’s honorees include:
- Bernadette Allen, RN, Operating Room, Shenango Valley campus
- Becky Blaze, RN, Transitional Care Center, Greenville campus
- Dawn Cutshaw, RN, Three West, Greenville campus
- Michelle Depree, LPN, Nursing Administration
- Debra Drapola, CRNP, Patient Care Services
- Lorie Farmartino, RN, Pre-Operative Testing, Shenango Valley campus
- Maria Schuwerk, RN, Three Medical Telemetry, Greenville campus
- Casey Steckler, RN, Operating Room, Shenango Valley campus
- Kristi Stoyer, RN, coordinator, Minimally Invasive Bariatric and General Surgery Center
- Bev Struna, RN, Emergency Department, Greenville campus
- Sara Webster-Mull, RN, Three West, Greenville campus
Clarissa White, CRNP, Greenville Medical Center-UPMC
In addition, Katelyn Bair, RN, a nurse in the Intermediate Care Unit at the Shenango Valley campus, will be named “Rookie of the Year” and Brenda Campbell, manager of Information Services, will receive the “Friend of Nursing Award.” Ms. Campbell was selected by UPMC Horizon nurses as a non-nursing employee who sets a standard by working collaboratively with members of the nursing team to enhance the patient experience and positively contributes to the future of UPMC Horizon by supporting the nursing profession.
The nursing staff also will award a “Heart of Horizon” nursing scholarship to a nurse pursuing higher education and announce UPMC Horizon’s Cameos of Caring award winner, who will represent UPMC Horizon nurses at the Cameos of Caring awards gala this fall in Pittsburgh.
A panel of UPMC Horizon nursing staff and managers selected the recipients based on such traits as care delivery, quality of care and quality improvement, quality of nursing leadership and interdisciplinary relationships, teaching ability, and professional development.
