Greenville , PA — A third bariatric surgeon, who specializes in minimally invasive surgery, has joined UPMC Horizon’s medical staff and the staff of Horizon Surgical Associates – UPMC.
Christopher Myers, MD, recently completed a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. He earned his medical degree from University of Dublin, Trinity College, Ireland, and completed surgical residencies at Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, and UPMC Mercy. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons.
Dr. Myers specializes in single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS), an advanced minimally-invasive procedure that involves operating through a single entry point. SILS, which may be used on a number of procedures, enables a patient to recover from a procedure more quickly and with less pain than with traditional methods.
He joins James Kolenich, MD, and Etwar McBean, MD, as a surgeon with the UPMC Horizon Bariatric Center, which is designated as a Center of Excellence by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
