Fifth University of Pittsburgh digestive disorder specialist joining UPMC Horizon
Greenville, PA – A fifth specialist affiliated with the UPMC Digestive Disorders Center and the University of Pittsburgh Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition will begin seeing patients at UPMC Horizon this month.
Marc B. Schwartz, MD, assistant professor of medicine with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, will have office hours at Greenville Medical Center-UPMC and perform endoscopy procedures in the Ambulatory Services Department at UPMC Horizon’s Greenville campus beginning Monday, Nov. 30.
Dr. Schwartz specializes in inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer in inflammatory bowel disease. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and his post-graduate training includes a residency at the University of Michigan and a fellowship at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Schwartz joins Adam Slivka, MD, PhD; Kapil Chopra, MD; Kevin McGrath, MD; and Jason Swoger, MD, MPH, who began seeing patients and performing procedures at UPMC Horizon in October. As physicians with the UPMC Digestive Disorders Center, they specialize in conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, liver diseases, pancreatic and biliary disorders, esophageal disease, as well as prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal cancer.
The introduction of Dr. Schwartz to UPMC Horizon’s service area builds on an existing, high-quality program designed to provide rapid access to endoscopy for specific complaints and screening studies, including screenings for colorectal cancer, and to bring experts in distinct subspecialties of gastroenterology to the community. The group’s approach is to partner with primary care physicians, surgeons, and other specialists to develop personalized treatment plans.
