Fertility and reproductive endocrinology specialist to join UPMC Horizon and Magee-Womens Hospital
Hermitage, PA – Robert Collins, MD, reproductive endocrinologist, will relocate his Youngstown, Ohio, based practice to the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon in November to join the Magee Center for Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology-North.
Dr. Collins will offer full infertility evaluation and management at the Womancare Center, as well as perform surgical procedures at UPMC Horizon. His clinical interests include the medical management of androgen diseases and polycystic ovarian disease, and his surgical specialties include laparoscopic (minimally invasive) myoectomy (the surgical removal of uterine fibroids) and tubal ligation reversal.
During his 15 years in practice in Youngstown, Dr. Collins received a large number of referrals from the Mercer County area, which was a factor in his decision to move his practice to Hermitage.
“There’s a good physician referral support system in Mercer County,” he says. “We want to offer first-class reproductive endocrinology services that are available to patients in this area, so they don’t have to travel so far.”
Dr. Collins is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Division of Reproductive Endocrinology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center of Health Sciences, Memphis, and completed an obstetrics/gynecology residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. He also completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., where he received the National Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine from the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Collins joins Magee-Womens Hospital fertility and reproductive endocrinology specialists Joseph S. Sanfilippo, MD, MBA, and Anthony Wakim, MD, who began offering consultations at the Womancare Center last year.
The establishment of the Magee Center for Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology-North, along with the addition of a Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC specialty suite and the future development of a maternal/fetal medicine program with Magee, further cements UPMC Horizon’s relationship with UPMC specialty programs and returns the Womancare Center to its original mission of offering advanced services to women and children locally.
