The Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon combines the values, mission, and vision of UPMC with the passion of Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC to provide quality health care to women and their families. Through its resources, the Womancare Center offers advanced technology, a direct link to research and educational programs, and a standard of care based on Magee-Womens Hospital, a nationally-renowned women’s health institution.
The Womancare Center follows the philosophy of care developed at Magee to treat women with dignity, empower them through education, and offer to them advanced comprehensive care. Our approach combines multiple services under one roof, including a diagnostic center, a variety of specialty physician offices, ongoing community education programs, a focus on wellness and prevention, and partnerships with outside agencies to advance the level of services available for women across the lifespan.
Our affiliation with Magee enables our physicians and staff to receive the same continuing education and training to ensure consistency with Magee’s mission.
Services
Diagnostics
The whole family can benefit from the Womancare Center’s diagnostic services. Men, women, and children are encouraged to use the facility for their testing needs. Diagnostic services available at the Womancare Center include:
- general radiology (x-rays)
- laboratory services (blood draws)
- DXA (bone mineral density scans)
- mammography
- stereotactic breast biopsy
- EKG
- ultrasound
- open MRI
Same-day mammography results
No one likes to wait for test results, especially if those results could indicate something serious. However, women who undergo diagnostic mammograms at either UPMC Horizon campus or the Womancare Center will receive their results the same day as the test. Also, in most cases, scheduling for any follow-up testing needed following a diagnostic mammogram may made the same day.
This initiative is modeled after a standard established by Magee to decrease the time of uncertainty that falls between having a mammogram and receiving the diagnosis. Each woman who has a mammogram at a UPMC Horizon facility receives a report card detailing the procedure, findings, and recommendations.

"Blueprint to Build a Healthy Baby"
“Blueprint to Build a Healthy Baby” is an incentive program designed to encourage expectant and new mothers to complete physician office visits, screenings, tests, and classes to ensure they are doing everything they can to give birth to a healthy baby. Patients may earn “Building Blocks” by attending scheduled appointments and classes and by studying the “Blueprint to Build a Healthy Baby” handbooks, which are available in the waiting rooms of every UPMC Horizon obstetrician/gynecologist. The “Building Blocks” may then be redeemed for items in the “Blueprint to Build a Healthy Baby” catalogue.
Patients may enroll in “Blueprint to Build a Healthy Baby” during their first prenatal physician office visit.
"Girls on the Run"
The Womancare Center and Magee-Womens Hospital sponsor “Girls on the Run,” an experiential learning program designed exclusively for pre-teen girls in fourth through sixth grades. Founded by Molly Barker, the innovative curriculum includes running workouts and games that teach specific life skills such as how to make healthy decisions, resolve conflict and get along in a group. The goal of the program is to provide girls with stronger self-esteem, respect for others, the value of teamwork and the importance of community.
Part of the Community
The Womancare Center is more than just a place to go for medical care; it is a community gathering place that hosts a number of activities, ranging from support groups to book clubs to classes — even art shows. The Womancare Center is also the site of the local American Cancer Society Wig Bank and maintains a close relationship with AW/ARE (Alternatives for Women/Advocacy, Resources, and Education).
