Offering big-city care in a small town atmosphere, our Emergency Department is able to provide care for an array of medical conditions. if a situation arises where a patient must be flown to another hospital within the UPMC network, UPMC Bedford Memorial is equipped with a heliport on the premises for air evacuation, and a fully equipped Emergency Command Center.
Specialists in obstetrics, urology, ear nose and throat, orthopedics, and general surgery are on call and available to patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Also, the average wait time from arriving at the hospital to being seen by a physician is mostly always under 15 minutes.
Stroke Telemedicine
The Emergency Department at UPMC Bedford uses telemedicine to help assess possible stroke patients and give timely treatment. This system uses high-tech videoconferencing to link experts at the UPMC Stroke Institute to the UPMC Bedford Memorial Emergency Department physicians. The stroke experts assess the patient’s condition and recommend the best treatment for the patient.
In-House Hospitalist Connection
When necessary, patient care continues with our Hospitalist — a board certified or board eligible physician who will care for patients during their inpatient stay. The Hospitalists' 24 hour, 365 day availability allows them to quickly track test results and promptly order follow up tests and medications for patients.
