Research
Our patients directly benefit in a timely way from the latest advances in psychiatric care, including modern diagnosis and assessment based on innovative methodologies. Many patients who have been treated elsewhere without success can find help at WPIC.
Through our academic partnership with the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, we support a number of research projects to advance the understanding of mental illness and the quality of care for patients, striving to establish research programs that will produce the critical knowledge necessary to offer the highest quality of behavioral health care.
A variety of treatment and service programs are under study, targeting the young through elderly patient populations suffering from a wide range of problems. Patients and their families always have the option to participate in any of these clinical research programs.
Through collaboration with numerous experts in neurosciences and the use of the latest technologies in neuroimaging, genetics, and neurobiology, our researchers are developing an understanding of the pathophysiology and etiology of psychiatric illnesses.
WPIC currently houses six federally funded Centers of Excellence:
As an academic partner of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, WPIC and the Department of Psychiatry consistently rank first nationally in psychiatric research funding from the National Institutes of Health.
