Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC

Community Services

WPIC strives to improve the quality and scope of community-based services and support for individuals with behavioral health problems who are in recovery — and for their families as well. Through the effective management of community-based resources and support, program staff take a client and family-centered approach to assist clients in finding appropriate treatment, meaningful employment, and adequate housing resources.

Clinical case management services and the Intensive Case Management and Resource Coordination programs collaborate with families, community health and social services organizations, state hospitals, and county and state government to provide and coordinate services for adults with serious mental illness and children and adolescents with serious behavioral and emotional problems. Innovative Community Treatment Teams work with transitional age adolescents (16-25) and with adults (25+) to provide a full continuum of clinical services and community-based support to the homeless who are mentally ill or have a substance use disorder. The WPIC Homeless Continuum received a prestigious 2002 Significant Achievement Award from the American Psychiatric Association for innovative clinical services and support for this population.
