What Sets Us Apart
We understand the diagnosis of breast cancer can be quite overwhelming, evoking an array of various emotions. The Magee-Womens Breast Cancer Program of UPMC Cancer Centers is staffed with compassionate nurses, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, genetic counselors, psychologists, pathologists and technologists and plastic and reconstructive surgeons who are committed to excellence in patient care and here to support you through this diagnosis. In addition, we offer a wide range of support and educational services to aid you in making informed decisions regarding your care.
For the convenience of our patients, we provide breast health education programs and a network of breast centers located within a 10-mile radius of every woman in Allegheny County.
Our experts employ the most comprehensive, sophisticated diagnostic equipment and most clinically sound and progressive treatments available, including breast MRI, digital mammography, computer aided detection (CAD) technology, and access to the latest clinical trials. Our goal is to help women maintain breast health, and when necessary, to provide early cancer detection and individualized intervention.
If you have a family history of breast cancer or a personal history of an abnormal breast biopsy, you may want to be followed in the High Risk Breast Cancer Program where other recommendations may be made.
The experts at the Breast Cancer Program recommend the following plan for women without symptoms or a family history of breast cancer:
- every month — perform a breast self-examination
- once a year — see your heath care provider for a clinical breast examination
- beginning at age 40 — have a screening mammogram every year
