Ovarian Cancer Support Group

If you are a woman whose life is being affected by ovarian cancer, you know the many fears, stresses, and concerns that you face - for yourself, your family and your friends. You shouldn't hesitate to talk about your feelings with those who are significant in your life, as well as with the professional staff at the hospital. Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC of UPMC offers an ovarian cancer support group to give women the opportunity to exchange information and worries with others who are facing the same reality. Many women find this forum helpful to better cope and adjust emotionally to ovarian cancer and its treatment. Social workers and nurses, who understand the impact of cancer on a woman’s life, lead Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC’s ovarian cancer support groups. For more information, call 412 641-4254.

Picking Up the Pieces

Your physician, health care team, family, and friends are all important in your recovery from ovarian cancer. But as hard as they may try, unless they have experienced ovarian cancer themselves, they cannot completely understand your feelings, your fears, and your needs.

Many women with ovarian cancer find it helpful to talk to another woman who has had the disease - someone who is doing well, enjoying life again, and remembers the uncertainties and the questions. Picking Up the Pieces is a peer counseling program between long-term ovarian cancer survivors and newly-diagnosed ovarian cancer survivors. To find out more, call the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition - Pittsburgh Division at 412-486-4952.
