Anthony Delitto

Anthony Delitto, Ph.D., P.T., is an associate professor and chair of the department of physical therapy at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. He also serves as the vice president for education and research, Centers for Rehab Services.

Dr. Delitto holds a B.S. from SUNY Buffalo and a MHS/PT in physical therapy from Washington University. Prior to coming to the University, he completed his education in 1990 with a Ph.D. in social psychology from Washington University.

Dr. Delitto is primarily interested in conducting evidence-based studies in rehabilitation settings, particularly in populations who have musculoskeletal dysfunction (e.g., low back pain). Through his pursuit of such interests, he has been featured in several publications and has become part of an accomplished research team.

While pursuing his research interests, Dr. Delitto also maintains a clinical practice, seeing patients who have low back pain and remains an active member of the University faculty. His teaching interests are focused in clinical decision-making and diagnostic process strategies of expert rehabilitation professionals.

Dr. Delitto believes that if the methods how some rehabilitation professionals are obtaining good outcomes with patients are able to be determined, then one should be able to detail their decision-making process and ultimately teach these successful strategies to students. Ultimately, through such beliefs and his research efforts, Dr. Delitto is continually working to improve the field of rehabilitation therapy.
