William Follansbee, M.D., is professor of medicine and professor of radiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and director of nuclear cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s UPMC Presbyterian.
Dr. Follansbee received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia and joined the University of Pittsburgh faculty in 1980.
Dr. Follansbee is investigator or co-investigator of a number of NIH sponsored studies including the Epidemiology of Diabetes Complications Study, the effect of enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) on myocardial perfusion in patients with stable symptomatic coronary artery disease and the National Emphysema Treatment Trial (NETT).
He belongs to numerous professional societies including the American College of Physicians, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Heart Association, the Western Pennsylvania Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.
He has been a consulting review for professional journals including American Heart Journal, American Journal of Cardiology, American Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Arthritis and Rheumatism, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Journal of Rheumatology, New England Journal of Medicine and Stroke.
