WHY: The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing created the Cameos of Caring program in 1999 in response to the nursing shortage. The program provides an opportunity for hospitals to recognize the contributions their nurses make to quality health care, while increasing public awareness of the nursing profession. The Cameos of Caring program highlights the career rewards of nursing, while helping to recruit a new generation of nurses.
