UPMC Statement on Swine Flu
PITTSBURGH, April 27, 2009 — Over the past week, cases of swine flu have been reported in the United States in southern California, Texas, Kansas, Ohio and New York.
The UPMC Flu Task Force reports that, to date, there are no cases of swine flu in any UPMC hospital. UPMC will provide updates as warranted.

The symptoms of swine flu are typical of the regular flu. They include cough, runny/stuffy nose, fever, muscle aches, headache, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea and respiratory symptoms. Symptoms may be worse in people who have chronic health conditions.
This particular strain of swine flu is treatable with the drug oseltamivir (Tamiflu).
The World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are following this situation closely and are providing updates to the public. Access the CDC Web site at http://www.cdc.gov/ for additional information.
