UPMC Names Andrea V. Cotter as Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 17, 2010 – Andrea V. Cotter will join the executive staff of UPMC as chief communications officer on Jan. 31, 2011. Ms. Cotter joins UPMC from IBM, where she has more than 30 years of experience in various IBM sales and marketing divisions, most recently as director, Global Healthcare Marketing.

Sandra N. Danoff, who has been serving as chief communications officer since 2005, has been named senior vice president, strategic planning and special projects at UPMC. Reporting directly to Jeffrey A. Romoff, UPMC president and CEO, Ms. Danoff will focus in her new role on issues of critical importance to UPMC’s senior leadership and Board of Directors.

In her new role, Ms. Cotter will have responsibility for national, regional and clinical marketing, advertising and public relations activities at UPMC. She will translate the global health enterprise’s vision into fully integrated communications campaigns, and develop and implement marketing, advertising and media efforts to support these efforts.

“Andrea Cotter is a seasoned marketing professional with a deep understanding of the health care marketplace,” said Mr. Romoff. “Her expertise in developing integrated marketing campaigns will be extremely valued as we seek to further advance UPMC’s business interests and reputation locally, nationally and internationally.”

Ms. Cotter received a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) Oswego and a master’s degree from SUNY Albany. Her civic and charitable positions have included service to Junior Achievement in Albany, N.Y., where she was a recipient of its Leadership Award; New Canaan Board of the American Red Cross; Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Chekov, Russia Sister City Program, among others.
