Organ Donor Families, Recipients to Dedicate Giving Life Wall at UPMC

WHAT: UPMC will dedicate the Giving Life Wall, a photomontage on permanent display at UPMC Presbyterian hospital that honors those who selflessly gave the gift of life to a loved one through organ donation. The wall is a collaborative effort between UPMC and the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE).

WHO: Donor families, living donors and their recipients, UPMC nurses and physicians and representatives from CORE, among others.

WHEN: 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012

WHERE: Thomas E. Starzl Biomedical Science Tower, Lothrop Street, Pittsburgh, Pa. In the building’s foyer and room S100.

WHY: The Giving Life Wall was constructed last year and is located on the pedestrian bridge that connects UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Montefiore.

The dedication also will help UPMC mark National Donor Day, which falls on Valentine’s Day and encourages the community to celebrate life and the people they love by becoming a donor through blood, marrow, blood stem cell and organ, eye and tissue donation. National Donor Day was started in 1998 by the Saturn Corp. and its United Auto Workers partners with the support of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and many nonprofit health organizations.

Media interested in covering the dedication should contact Jennifer C. Yates at 412-647-9966 or cell 412-328-7811 or email at yatesjc@upmc.edu to RSVP and arrange for parking.
