The UPMC Institute for Rehabilitation and Research, which is located at UPMC Mercy, is accredited by both the Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). It holds specialty certifications from CARF in traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, and as a comprehensive integrated inpatient rehabilitation program.
The IRR's Center for Spinal Cord Injury is one of only 14 programs in the country designated as a spinal cord injury model site. Rehabilitation includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, case management, nutrition services, psychology, neuropsychology, and vocational and community re-entry services. > Read more
Brain injury is one of the main areas of focus at the IRR. The 20-bed Center for Brain Injury is dedicated to rehabilitation for patients with brain injuries.
