About the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program

The first of its kind when it opened its doors in 2000, the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program is a global leader in testing, treating, and researching sports-related concussions.

With over 17,000 patient visits each year, our more than 30 staff members treat high school, college, and pro athletes — including many from the MLB, NHL, and NFL — from across the United States.

Pioneering ImPACT® (Immediate Post-concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing)

Designed by our experts, ImPACT® is the most used neurocognitive test — and the first of its kind — to help assess concussion.  It is also the first medical device of its kind, along with a pediatric version, to receive U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance.

This tool provides doctors and athletic trainers with best practices to help them make safe return-to-play decisions.

The NFL, NHL, and more than 8,400 high schools and colleges across the country have mandated ImPACT.
