When Bonnie started noticing a slow build-up of pain, she attributed the discomfort to arthritis or gout. After several surgeries on her leg, she found she had a serious infection and developed a nonhealing wound. Bonnie's surgeon suggested hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a novel treatment that would incorporate the use of 100 percent pressurized oxygen to help heal her wound.

When Dr. Scott Nettour, a retired orthopaedic surgeon, developed ulcers on his feet as a result of diabetes, he turned to UPMC Wound Healing Services at UPMC Passavant for treatment - including wound debridement and a combination of collagen and extracellular matrix products that encouraged growth of his skin cells to improve healing.
