Women's Heart Program
The Women’s Heart Program at UPMC was established to help slow the escalating incidence of heart disease in women – now the number-one cause of death in American women. The program offers innovative care to women with cardiac and noncardiac chest pain, providing diagnostic evaluation and a full range of nonsurgical and surgical treatment options.

A goal of the program is to educate the public and health care professionals about the importance of reducing and controlling risk factors as well as how to recognize symptoms of heart disease in women. Women are evaluated for cardiac risk factors and given support to improve their diets, reduce stress, and change their lifestyles to improve their overall health.
Women’s Heart Program experts also conduct research aimed at more effectively diagnosing and treating women as well as understanding how heart disease differs in men and women.
