Preparing for a Stay
During rehabilitation, patients get up and get dressed every day for therapy. Please use this list as a checklist for items that you will need or may want to bring.
Clothing:
- several sets of comfortable athletic clothing, including T-shirts and sweat pants or stretch pants. We recommend that you bring shorts if you had leg surgery.
- clothing like you would wear at home. This should include button-down shirts that you can practice closing and opening.
- soft-soled or athletic shoes. Non-skid soles are recommended, and backless shoes like sandals and flip-flops are not allowed.
- sweaters, sweat shirts or a lightweight jacket
- pajamas, a bathrobe, and slippers. The slippers should have some sort of tread or traction on the bottom.
- underwear
- socks
Personal care items and toiletries:
- personal hygiene items. These products may include hypoallergenic items if that is what you prefer. Do not bring personal hygiene items that have perfumes or colognes in them. They might trigger problems for other people who have allergies to them.
- shampoo and other hair care products
- a hairbrush or comb
- cosmetics
- denture adhesive and cleaner if you wear dentures
Other items to bring:
- dentures, hearing aids, or glasses
- a list of any medications you are taking. Do not bring the medications.
- any splints, braces, or orthotics, and customized equipment — like a wheelchair — that you are using at home
- any assistive devices that you own and use
- a living will or advance directive if you have one
You might want to bring:
- books and magazines
- a small amount of cash. You may want to bring $5 or less.
- phone numbers for relatives and friends
- a pad of paper, pen, or pencil
Do not bring:
- toiletries with perfumes and colognes. These items might trigger allergies in other people.
- valuables
- large amounts of cash
- medications
- firearms or other weapons
