Voice evaluation
Voice evaluation offers an assessment of the patient's techniques and patterns of vocal use.
Voice recording and analysis
Recording and analysis includes quantification of the voice signal with respect to pitch, loudness, quality, and variability, as well as measurement of the acoustic parameters and breathing dynamics.
Flexible laryngoscopy
A common examination used to visualize the throat and voice box.
Videostroboscopy
Using specialized cameras, stroboscopic light slows down the speed of vibrations of the vocal folds so it can be easily visualized and interpreted.
Laryngeal electromyography (EMG)
Special neurological test that provides information about how the nerves and muscles connect and function.
Vocal performance assessment
This assessment allows our staff to evaluate vocal function — including pitch range, loudness range, and voice quality measures — for later use as baseline measures. Following vocal training, the data can be evaluated to measure improvement. It may also be used to assess the recovery of the vocal function after injury.
Tracheotomy decannulation evaluation
This evaluation is available for those seeking opinions about the necessity of tracheotomy tubes and the options for removing them.
Emergency care
Emergency care, including on-site emergency consultations, are available to vocal performers. This allows our staff to treat vocal problems immediately, often at the patient's performance or rehearsal location.

Evaluation of the aging voice
This evaluation includes special assessments of various voice disorders associated with aging.
Transgendered Services
The UPMC Voice Center provides voice and communication services for people who are transgendered. Individuals who are transgendered often need to work harder – and sometimes need guidance – to communicate an ‘outward’ self that is congruent with the ‘inner’ self. Voice and communication masculinization and feminization training is available for people along the gender spectrum.
