UPMC Pain Medicine Program

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Division of Pain Medicine is a program of comprehensive research, clinical, and educational components committed to the evaluation and treatment of the entire range of pain, disability, and rehabilitation concerns.

UPMC Pain Medicine offers an interdisciplinary team approach that includes dedicated professionals from a number of different specialties, including medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and psychology.

This multidimensional treatment approach addresses the complex interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors in the perception and management of pain.

In an interview published in the magazine of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Doris Cope, MD, division chief of the UPMC Pain Medicine Program, discusses the differences in types of pain and where pain management is heading.
