Department of Radiology

Abdominal Imaging

One of the largest clinical divisions within the department, abdominal imaging at UPMC has a national reputation for excellence, and division faculty are well-known throughout their subspecialty. This reputation has led to collaborations with physicians from all over the world who have come to UPMC to study with and learn from the division’s radiologists.

UPMC is the ideal setting for the academic abdominal radiologist, as it is strong in transplant surgery, trauma, and oncology — a rare combination of strengths that presents unlimited clinical and research opportunities.

The abdominal imaging division deals with the imaging, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the abdomen and pelvis. Other non-abdominal conditions also are handled by this group, including pharyngeal and esophageal disease and thyroid, scrotal, vascular, and extremity abnormalities, using ultrasound. Major research focuses for the division include hepatobiliary disease, trauma, and organ transplantation. The division is based at UPMC Presbyterian, and division faculty also staff UPMC Shadyside and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
