Heritage Place Resident Celebrates 109th Birthday
UPMC Senior Living resident, Flossie Carter, celebrated 109 years of life on June 2. She is a lifelong baseball fan who has always listened to games on the radio or has watched them on TV. She is a devoted Pittsburgh Pirates fan, but has never attended a game.
Flossie’s large and loving family will help her celebrate this momentous milestone with a cake and party at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 6, at UPMC Heritage Place, where she has lived for the past five years. Her family consists of three children, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Flossie worked for the Works Project Administration, the government program that helped to provide jobs after the Great Depression. She moved to Pittsburgh as an adult where she was a homemaker who helped to raise her grandchildren while her children went to work.
Flossie’s zest for life and longevity are an inspiration to the entire UPMC Senior Communities family. In recognition of her special day, Flossie was featured in the local news. Read Flossie’s story.
