UPMC Pancreatic Cancer Center

UPMC Pancreatic Cancer Center

The UPMC Pancreatic Cancer Center is a multidisciplinary program that provides clinical services, cutting-edge therapies, and innovative clinical trials for patients with pancreatic cancer.

We offer comprehensive clinical services for patients with pancreatic cancer, serve as a center of excellence in patient care and clinical research, and function as a regional and national center for surgery, diagnosis, and treatment of this complex disease.

World-Class Experience in Minimally Invasive Procedures

Surgeons at the Pancreatic Cancer Center are among the world’s most experienced in minimally invasive pancreatic surgery, including laparoscopic pancreatectomy, as well as robotic surgical techniques. Minimally invasive procedures typically allow for quicker recovery with less pain after surgery.

Our surgical team is experienced in performing a variety of advanced pancreatic surgical techniques, including:

Our Multidisciplinary Approach

Through a multidisciplinary approach, leading experts in surgical oncology, gastroenterology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pain and palliative care, and nutrition collaborate to develop state-of-the-art treatment strategies for patients with diseases of the pancreas.

The Pancreatic Cancer Center provides comprehensive single-visit evaluations at the Digestive Disorders Center at UPMC Presbyterian in Oakland and at the Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Shadyside. During the appointment, the multidisciplinary team meets to review each patient’s case and develops a comprehensive treatment plan to ensure the most appropriate care.

Treatment strategies are developed in tandem with referring physicians, and often involve a combination of:

  • surgery
  • chemotherapy
  • radiation therapy
  • clinical trials (when appropriate)
