Traditional organ transplantation often is life-saving. For patients who undergo reconstructive transplantation, it is said to be “life-giving.”
Reconstructing limbs, faces, and other parts of the human body can restore a person’s functionality, ability — and often — their hope. Hope that they can live a more normal, productive, and fulfilling life.

Our surgeons successfully completed:
- Their first single-hand (unilateral) transplant on March 14, 2009.
- The nation’s first double-hand (bilateral) transplant and total forearm transplant.
- Surgery on the nation's first female double-hand transplant recipient on September 11, 2010.
