Who's Eligible for the Face Transplant Study?

The UPMC Reconstructive Transplantation Program is currently conducting a clinical research study on facial tissue transplantation.

Eligible candidates must:

  • be between 18 and 69 years old
  • have significant facial injury, deficit, or deformity, affecting structures such as the:
    • eyelid
    • lip
    • nose
    • mouth

This research study uses the Pittsburgh Protocol, a new approach to regulating the body’s immune system to accept a transplanted organ.
