One of the Largest Stem Cell Transplantation Service Providers in the Region
UPMC Cancer Centers — one of the largest providers of stem cell transplantation services in western Pennsylvania — offers an array of therapies, including the following stem cell transplants:
Physicians collect and transplant stem cells from a donor who matches the recipients’ cells. |
Physicians harvest the patient's stem cells prior to other cancer treatments, purge the abnormal cells, and transplant the purified stem cells into the patient. |
Similar to an allogeneic transplant, however, the donor cells come from the patient’s identical twin. |
The Stem Cell Transplantation Program of UPMC Cancer Centers also:
- Participates in the International Bone Marrow Registry and the Autologous Blood and Marrow Transplant Registry, providing a greater chance to find a donor “match” if needed.
- Offers opportunities to participate in innovative clinical trials of promising new transplant approaches for treating blood and bone cancers.
